Nordic Virtual Roundtable: Food and Beverage Edition
On September 29, 2021, the Nordic Chambers of Commerce held the Nordic Virtual Roundtable: Food and Beverage Edition.The event was a part of the Nordic Series of Events which aims to promote mutually-beneficial bilateral business relations between the Nordics and the United States. Eleven Nordic companies participated in the event and gave brief introductions before participating in a roundtable discussion focusing on company updates, challenges, opportunities, and shared or unique experiences. Specific topics for the discussion ranged from the supply chain problem to e-commerce , changes in the regulatory landscape, and implications of the new administration’s focus on sustainability. Technology as an enabler was also discussed along with consumer trends, vegan sustainability, locally-produced goods, waste, and packaging. Panelists also shared their own success stories with specific tools or concepts to drive revenue or commercial success.
The following Nordic companies took part in the event:
Brennivin - creator of Iceland’s signature distilled beverage, made with Icelandic water and flavored with caraway.
Icelandic Provisions - producers of traditional Icelandic Skyr, a dairy product high in protein and low in sugar with a creamy taste and a thick texture. Icelandic Provisions Skyr is made from heirloom Skyr cultures originating from Iceland with milk sourced from family-owned farms.
Norwegian Baked - producers of Norwegian nutrient-rich baked crispbread (Knekkebrod (sp)) made fresh in Brooklyn from organic ingredients.
Fazer - founded in 1891 in Finland, Fazer aims to create food with a purpose for everyday life combining a strong heritage with bold innovation and creativity with products ranging from baked goods, confections, grain products, plant-based foods, and more.
Jamix - a cloud-based kitchen intelligence system for sustainable kitchen management allowing users to manage all kitchen operations in one software system. The system is ideal for restaurants, catering businesses, and other businesses within the food service industry and includes features such as recipe management, allergen information, menu planning, and inventory management.
Laitilan Wirvoitusjuomatehdas - Finnish producer of soft drinks and alcoholic beverages including beers, ciders, and long drinks.
Gold&Green Foods - Finnish creators ofPulled Oats®, the plant-based food made with five simple ingredients: oats, yellow peas, fava beans, cold-pressed canola oil, and salt. Pulled Oats® was created by Maija Itkonen and Reetta Kivelä, who wanted to create a healthy food with simple ingredients that would change the world.
