Finnish Pitch & Mix
On March 3rd, 2020, the Finnish Pitch & Mix event was held at the Consulate General of Finland in New York. The event was co-organized by the Finnish American Chamber of Commerce, the Consulate General of Finland in New York, Smartup Capital, Empire State Development, and the United States Embassy in Helsinki. The event brought together investors, partners, financial advisors, and the like to hear business pitches from seven Finnish start-ups. The Finnish companies participating in the event were Nordtreat, Sweetsbot, Toroidion, DSMS Inc, Pikkuli, Anaxeos, and GlobalMusicDrama Oy/Manon in Manhattan LLC.
Nordtreat is a Finnish company offering a new generation of flame retardants for wood that are ecological, effective, and durable. Fire retardants are required in 95% of the tall buildings in the USA, but most legacy fire retardants contain toxic chemicals. Nordtreat products are laboratory-tested and use green technology to ensure safety and durability of the product.
Sweetsbot is a digital solution to growing mental health issues in the workplace. The digital solution provides access to real time data and analytics as well as bot-based conversational feedback and direct referrals to online specialists for any emerging mental health problems. The solution is a licensed science-based model with its own professional content, developed with in-house clinical psychologist and validated by a university.
Toroidion is a Finnish company that has created a revolutionary electric powertrain with applications to cars, trucks, as well as air and sea travel. Toroidion also offers an innovative multi-cylinder electric engine, which offers increased efficiency and safety. Toroidion launched its 1MW Concept on April 16th, 2015 with Prince Albert of Monaco. Toroidion 1MW Concept has four direct drive electric motors producing total mechanical power of 1000kW at 48V – the first of its kind in the world.
DSMS Inc. offers Delivered, a digital solution that brings social media features easily and seamlessly into an existing app. Delivered enables personalized and unprecedented interactive connection between the brand and users, connects the cooperation partners with the users, and enables online communication between users. Delivered also has its own social media and instant messaging interfaces.
Pikkuli, is an adorable children’s character from Finland, known from TV series, books, apps and education. Pikkuli is used for teaching social and emotional skills in kindergartens in Finland and has been studied and tested by the faculty of University of Turku. The main innovations of Pikkuli are: learning social skills with emotional and entertaining stories, providing models for better and positive parenting, and the use of visual bubbles instead of dialogue allows children to think themselves.
Anaxeos offers a wearable dog wellness and health tracker that allows dog owners to collect valuable and shareable data about their companion’s behavior, activity, and location. The solution is composed of wearable sensor technology, AI powered data cloud + data monetization platform, and a mobile application. The solution allows dog owners to set and track goals for their pet, track their activity levels, heart rate, and map routes.
GlobalMusicDrama Oy/Manon in Manhattan LLC offers Manon, a new musical based on the classic novel Manon Lescaut by Prevost and hopes to bring this musical to Broadway. The musical tells the story of a woman whose goal it is to use everything in her power to turn the tables on society and fight for what she thinks is right. The musical is infused with an inspiring Jazz score by the legendary composer, Heikki Sarmanto.
