The MTA Capital Program 2020-2024 – Rebuilding New York’s Transportation System
Did you know that 9 million people rely on the MTA daily? In order to deliver a world-class transportation system to its large base of daily commuters, MTA is rolling out its MTA Capital Program 2020-2024, a five-year plan aimed at modernizing and rebuilding New York’s transportation system.
The plan includes $51.5 billion in funding aimed at modernizing and improving the city and state’s transportation system, which is a 70 percent increase in funding from the 2015-2019 5-year MTA plan. Over $40 billion will be directed at New York City transportation needs and projects alone.
Some of the main focus areas for the plan include: signaling, engineering/construction modernization, cyber-security, data analytics, accessibility, and fare evasion. Several specific highlights of the plan include more frequent and reliable service on 6 line segments, 70 new ADA-accessible stations, over 1,900 new subway cars, more than 2,400 new buses, and construction of four new Metro-North stations in the Bronx.
Due to the wide array of focal points for the project, MTA is seeking companies with appropriate tech solutions for these projects. If your company has an innovation that could be useful, please contact us for more information!
If you’re having a hard time conceptualizing the enormity of this project, compare its budget to the Finnish federal budget of $61.4 billion for 2019….
