Nordic Series: HR & Cultural Differences
On September 17th, 2019, he Nordic Chambers of Commerce held a Nordic Series event focused on Human Resources and Cultural Differences. The event featured speakers Rhonda Moore, Steven Peri, Jonas Prising, and Christian Luiga.
Some of the topics covered during the event included how to create accurate, realistic, and legally-compliant job descriptions, how to conduct interviews and spot good signs and red flags, how to convert a new hire into a productive, content employee, how to manage straight-forward separations, how to understand cultural differences between the Nordics and America, as well as how to create a talent strategy incorporating “Build, Buy, Borrow, and Bridge.”
The speaker for HR for the event was Rhonda Moore, a Human Resources Director at Barclays Center, with two decades of experience in employee relations, recruitment, reparations, training, performance management, and employee leave management. Moore graduated with an MBA in HR from Baruch College and has worked at various companies including Deloitte, Pfizer, and UBS.
The speaker on cultural differences at the event was Steven Peri, Chairman of the American Scandinavian Foundation and previous President of the Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce. Peri began his career as a litigation associate in a large New York Firm and has also held senior legal positions at two Fortune 500 companies before co-founding Peri & Stewart LLC.
Jonas Prising, CEO of Manpower Group, served as the event’s speaker on the workforce of tomorrow. Prising leads all of the Groups’s $21 billion business across 80 countries and territories. In addition to serving as CEO, Prising is internationally recognized as an expert on the labor market and the world of work trends and regularly speaks at international conferences and summits. Prising also actively engages in the World Economic Forum’s annual meetings and is Chair of the WEF Regional employment trends for national and global media.
Chrstian Luiga, CEO of Telia Group, also joined the panel. Luiga was appointed the acting president and CEO of Telia Group in September 2019. Prior to his appointment as acting president and CEO, Luiga served as the company’s CFO for several years.
