Online Course: Cybersecurity and the New Normal

On October 14th, the world's leading names on cybersecurity share how to safeguard your organization's operations throughout the "new normal" as the corona virus crisis continues

 About the Course:

It is undeniable that the coronavirus crisis is affecting our daily lives and how we conduct business. It is no longer feasible to think that we can return to the practices we started the year with as we strive to establish a new normal. Many companies have announced permanent remote working policies among many other policy changes.

In an effort to adapt to the new challenges brought on by the pandemic, companies quickly altered their processes, brought in new practices, and implemented new software. Since these changes were believed to be temporary, there was a lack of emphasis on analyzing the risks and benefits of the changes made. In fact, many of the changes made have huge security, privacy, cyber hygiene, and data governance implications. Many companies cut corners, for example, by starting the use of cloud databases without analyzing its possible consequences and by building virtual bridges between companies without proper assessment of possible third party information security risks. Furthermore, the cybercrime threat actors were very fast to exploit the situation, resulting in a real cybercrime pandemic.

Now, criminal enterprises are in the process of converting their most successful attacks into mass-market customized crimeware tools and services. Increasingly, criminal enterprises are building service businesses around their operations. Ransomware-as-a-Service, for example, is one of the fastest growing areas of cybercrime.

Mr. Harri Hursti is a world-renowned data security expert, internet visionary and serial entrepreneur. He began his career as the prodigy behind the first commercial, public email and online forum system in Scandinavia. He founded his first company at the age of 13 and went on to co-found EUnet-Finland in his mid- 20’s. He is considered one of the world’s foremost experts on the topic of electronic voting security, having served in all aspects of the industry sector. He is considered an authority on uncovering critical problems in electronic voting systems worldwide.

As an ethical hacker, Mr. Hursti is famously known for his successful attempt to demonstrate how the Diebold Election Systems’ voting machines could be hacked, ultimately altering final voting results. Mr. Hursti was hired by the nonprofit elections watchdog group, where he performed two voting machine hacking tests, which became widely known as the Hursti Hacks. In response to these successful hacks, California’s Secretary of State commissioned a special report by scientists at UC Berkeley to investigate the results and confirm the validity of the testing methodology used in the Hursti Hack. These tests were filmed and turned into an acclaimed HBO documentary called Hacking Democracy which was nominated for an Emmy award for outstanding investigative journalism.
